Battle of Britain

Eighty years ago, between 10 July - 31 October 1940, Britain was forced to defend its shores against the onslaught of the Luftwaffe that had already stormed across Western Europe. This battle was mainly fought in the skies and came to be known as the 'Battle of Britain' following the speech given by Prime Minister Winston Churchill to the House of Commons on the 18th June 1940.

This coins was issued by The Westminster Collection.

Obverse

The fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank Broadley, whose initials IRB appear under the Queens bust. Also displayed is the following text:

ELIZABETH II • BAILIWICK OF JERSEY • TEN POUNDS • 2020

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features engraved poppies with a single 3-dimensional Royal British Legion poppy secured in the centre, crafted purely from metal that has been taken directly from a legendary Spitfire.

The stylised poppy has been laser engraved with the official serial number of the Spitfire from which the metal was taken - PM631.

As a finishing touch, red enamel is applied to the centre of each poppy.
