Queen

Queen was formed in 1970 with Freddie Mercury on vocals, Brian May on guitar, John Deacon on bass guitar and Roger Taylor on drums. Known for their music videos, catchy songs and Mercury's eccentric stage performances, the band quickly became one of the biggest rock bands in the world and have sold an estimated 170 - 300 million albums.

Music Legends Series

This is the first release in the Music Legends series of coins from The Royal Mint. The series will celebrate British music royalty.

Privy Council

We first heard about the coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and lively company statuses. The Royal Mint have to submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.

Obverse

The obverse of the coins is the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

Reverse

Designed by Chris Facey, the reverse features Freddie Mercury's grand piano, Roger Taylor's bass drum, Brian May's guitar and John Deacon's bass. The keys on the piano are pressed down in the opening notes of Bohemian Rhapsody. Parts of the coin are accented with gold coloured printing.

The edge inscription is exclusive to the 1oz coin and reads;

MERCURY · MAY · TAYLOR · DEACON ·
