The 2020 Gold Proof Rupert Bear 50 Pence 5-Coin Set.

This coin set celebrates 100 years since the creation of Mary Tourtel's cartoon character which first appeared in the Daily Express newspaper on 8th November.

The set contains five 22-carat gold proof 50p coins which depict the various characters of the comic strip such as Rupert, Podgy Pig, Edward Trunk, Bill Badger and Algy Pug.

Only 15 of these sets were issued.

Please note this set may have some slight imperfections / surface marks which does not detract from the value.

Rupert Bear

Rupert Bear was created by Mary Tourtel in 1920.

Since first appearing as a single panel in the Daily Express, Rupert's popularity has grown and he has appeared in a number of books, annuals, television series and video games.

In September 2020, the Royal Mail issued a set of stamps to commemorate Rupert's centenary.

Obverse

The obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse of these 5 coins feature some of the most popular characters of the Rupert Bear stories, as designed by Matt Tindall. The coins show depictions of:

Podgy Pig;

Edward Trunk;

Bill Badger;

Algy Pug;

and of course, Rupert Bear.

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
