This is the 2020 Silver Proof Coloured Iguanodon Fifty Pence Coin. The first release in the Royal Mint's Tales of the Earth Series is The Dinosauria Collection which consists of coins featuring the Hylaeosaurus, Megalosaurus and the Iguanodon.

Only 7,000 of the coloured silver proof coins will be issued, making them highly sought after.

The coins are available in different finishes, including a brilliant uncirculated base metal coin, non-coloured silver proof version, as well as a gold proof coin.

Tales of the Earth: The Dinosauria Collection

The coins in The Dinosauria Collection feature the Megalosaurus, Hylaeosaurus and Iguanodon; the three species of dinosaur that paleontologist Richard Owen famously referred to in 1842 when announcing the discovery of a new animal, the dinosaur.

Iguanodon

The Iguanodon was a dinosaur that existed roughly 125 million years ago. The dinosaur was a herbivore and was able to shift from walking four limbs to walking on two.

It was discovered by palaeontologist, Gideon Mantell in 1825. The original name was Iguana-saurus, however it was changed to Iguanodon, which means 'iguana tooth'.

Obverse

The Jody Clark effigy of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of the coin. This is the fifth coinage portrait.

Reverse

The coins shows an Iguanodon accompanied by the inscription

“IGUANODON” and “MANTELL 1825”

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
