2020 Withdrawal from the European Union Gold Proof 50 Pence Coin.
This gold fifty pence coin was issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the UK leaving the EU. The coin is struck from 0.9167 fine gold (22 carat) and issued to a proof-finish. It is presented in a wooden box and accompanied by a booklet and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
This Brexit 50p is highly sought-after, with the coins having sold out at the mint within hours. Only 1,500 of the coins were produced, making them a must-have for a commemorative coin collector!
After the EU Referendum on 23rd June 2016, the UK finally left the European Union on 31st January 2020. The coin, just like the withdrawal itself, has had a turbulent history. The first coin was to be issued bearing the original exit date of 29th March, 2019. To our knowledge The Royal Mint did not begin production on the coins, and only created test pieces bearing this date.
The second coin, dated 31st October 2019, was actually minted. As the withdrawal date was once again pushed back, over a million coins were melted down and recycled.
This is the third version of the coin and hopefully the last!
The obverse bears the Jody Clark effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth UK coinage portrait of the Queen. The legend reads:
2020 ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 50 PENCE
The reverse design features the text:
Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations

Bullion coins are provided as is and on occasion may have some minor scratches or edge knocks. Gold investment products are VAT free. Silver investment products are inclusive of VAT at the current rate unless otherwise stated.
All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out.
If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.
