The 2019 Gold Proof Peter Pan 50 Pence Coin.
This coin, issued in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital, contains a 22-carat (.917 fine) gold proof coin celebrates JM Barrie's classic tale of The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up.
In 1929, Barrie gave the rights to Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital so they could continue their work and help fund the institution.
Only 500 coins were issued meaning they are in very limited supply, so this would make a great addition to any coin collection!
Sir James Mathew Barrie (1860 - 1937) was a Scottish novelist and playwright and is best known as the creator of Peter Pan.
Barrie created Peter Pan through the stories he told the sons of Sylvia Llewelyn Davies with whom he had formed a strong relationship.
The first appearance of Peter Pan was in the 1902 novel The Little White Bird and then in the 1904 stage play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. The stage play was an instant success and the chapters which featured Peter in The Little White Bird were published as Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.
The stage play was eventually turned in to the novel Peter and Wendy in 1911, although modern reissues are published under the name Peter Pan.
The obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse of the coins features a specially commissioned design by David Wyatt and Matt Tindall of Peter and his friends flying among the stars and is inscribed:
"Second to the right and then straight on till morning"
