The 2019 5 Ounce Gold Proof 80th Anniversary of the Kings Speech £10 Coin.

Struck in 22-carat/.917 fine gold, this coin commemorates the 80th anniversary of King George VI's speech after the British Empire and Commonwealth (excluding Eire) declared war on Germany.

The reverse of the coin features the entirety of the King's address to the nation. The coin comes in a presentation box and it's own magnifying glass.

This coin is number 10 of only 10 coins issued.

The King's Speech

After the abdication crisis of 1936, a reluctant Prince Albert, Duke of York assumed the crown after his brother, Kind Edward VIII stepped down to marry the American socialite and divorcee, Wallis Simpson.

Crowned as King George VI, the unprepared monarch with his pronounced stammer and social awkwardness was unfavourably compared with the more charismatic Edward VIII and was said to be very unhappy at being forced into his new role.

At the outbreak of World War II, King George became the symbol of British resolve and his speech to the nation became immortalised in the 2010 Oscar-winning film, The King's Speech.

The obverse features Ian Rank Broadley's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse features King George VI's speech in its entirety with the date 03.09.1939 in the centre.
