2019 Britannia 50 Years of the 50p Gold Proof Coin.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first 50 pence coin! This gold coin features the original Britiannia design, which was used when the coins were first introduced in 1969. I addition to this, they also contain a special privy mark to symbolise the science behind the 7-sided shape.

Issued in 22 carat gold (0.9167 fineness), each coin is struck to a proof finish and comes with a certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.

The coins have a limited edition presentation of just 300.

50th Anniversary of the 50p Coin

The first decimal fifty pence coins were issued in 1969. These coins originally had a 30mm diameter. In 1997 the coin was changed to be 27.3mm. Interestingly, this 2019 fifty pence coin has the same specification as the current fifty pence coins.

Obverse

The obverse features Jody Clark's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse was designed by Christoper Ironside and shows the iconic seated Britannia. She is shown with a shield on one side and a lion on the other. The coin uses the original text:

VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
