The 2016 £1 coin is the last round edition of the coin. In 2017, the pound coin underwent a re-design, featuring many security enhancements and a new, 12-sided shape.

These last round £1 coins were not be released into circulation, meaning it is highly unlikely that you'd find one in your change!

The round £1 design was introduced in 1983 and will be making way for the new 2017 twelve sided coin on 28 March 2017. This farewell coin will not enter circulation.

We received our stock of uncirculated coins on 14th June, 2016, whilst the silver versions arrived on 22nd June, 2016.

On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender.

Obverse

The obverse features the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

Reverse

The reverse features a design by the amateur artist and coin collector Gregory Cameron. The heraldic beasts of the four nations represents the equality, dignity and unity of the four countries which make up the United Kingdom. The crowned lion of England, the unicorn of Scotland, the dragon of Wales and the stag of Northern Ireland.

Bullion Coins:
These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
