This commemorative £5 coin was issued by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II in 2016. This was a huge occasion, with Elizabeth being the first British monarch to reach the milestone age.

This coin is struck from 0.925 sterling silver to a proof finish. This beautiful crown coin comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authentication from The Royal Mint.

A total of 13,000 of these coins were issued, with 9,000 with this limited edition presentation.

Queen Elizabeth II 90th Birthday

Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday began on 21st April 2016 (her actual birthday) and continued past 11th June 2016 (her 'official' birthday). Public celebrations included street parties, as well as a concert at The Mall.

Elizabeth is the only British monarch to have reached this milestone birthday.

The obverse shows the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The coin was designed by the painter and sculptor Christopher Hobbs, whose mosaics have appeared in Westminster Cathedral. The design was inspired by the English rose and Elizabeth's love of flowers.

The design features a crowned 'EIIR' royal cypher with '90' below. It is circled by nine roses, one for each decade of her life.

The edge text reads:
