2016 Elizabeth II 90th Birthday Gold Proof Five Pound Coin

This beautiful gold proof coin was issued by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. She is the first monarch in British history to reach the milestone age.

This £5 coin is struck to a proof finish from 22 carat gold (916.7 fine). The coin comes issued in a wooden presentation box and is accompanied by a small informational booklet as well as a numbered certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.

A total of 1,200 of these coins were minted, with only 900 with this limited edition presentation.

Queen Elizabeth II 90th Birthday

Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday began on 21st April 2016 (her actual birthday) and continued past 11th June 2016 (her 'official' birthday). Public celebrations included street parties, as well as a concert at The Mall.

Queen Elizabeth II is the only British monarch to have reached this milestone birthday.

The obverse shows the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The coin was designed by Christopher Hobbs, a painter and sculptor whose mosaics have appeared in Westminster Cathedral. The design was inspired by the English rose and Elizabeth's love of flowers.

The reverse design features a crowned 'EIIR' royal cypher with '90' below. It is circled by nine roses, one for each decade of her life.

The edge is plain with raised text with reads:

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
