Whilst the bullion 2016 sovereign features the fifth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, the proof version features a special portrait to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday by James Butler. It is the same portrait design as used on the 2015 Longest Reigning Monarch £5 coins.
This British coin is struck in 22 carat gold and comes with a wooden presentation box and certificate of authenticity

The obverse portrait of Elizabeth II was designed by James Butler and is only featured on the proof version of the 2016 sovereign. The engraver's initials JB are below the Queen's hair by the nape. The coin bears the legend ELIZABETH II·DEI·GRA·REGINA·FID·DEF
The reverse features the famous St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci. The date and the engraver's initials BP are in exergue.
