The Lion is the first in a series of ten coins featuring the Queen's Beasts.
This 2016 Queen's Beast 1oz gold uncirculated coin features a Lion. The Lion symbolises bravery, courage and strength and has been used in English heraldry since the 12th century.
This coin comes loose and you can add a 33mm capsule or gift box to your order in the basket.
The lion has appeared as a heraldic symbol since the twelth century when Henry I presented a shield with golden lions to one of his courtiers. Epitomising bravery, strength and valour, the lion has continued to appear on royal coats of arms and heraldic shields.
This is the first coin in the Royal Mint's Queen's Beast series of 10 bullion coins which are based on ten statues that were created by sculptor, James Woodford RA for the Queen's coronation in 1953. Each statue features heraldic details that are part of Elizabeth II's ancestry.
The 1oz gold coins have a face value of £100.
The obverse of the Queen's Beasts lion bears the Jody Clark fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse design displays a lion holding shield of Royal Arms. The legend reads:
