The 2016 Australian Kangaroo uncirculated quarter ounce gold coin.
Issued by the Perth Mint in Australia, these high quality uncirculated coins feature a stunning design of Australia's most popular animal, the kangaroo.
Until 1990 the coins featured famous gold nuggets on the reverse and were referred to as 'nuggets'. From 1990 onwards the design changed to feature a kangaroo instead. For this reason the coins may be called nuggets, kangaroos or 'roos.
The Perth Mint in Australia is well known for the superb quality of their designs and finishes of their coins. They are popular with both investors and coin collectors.
The Ian Rank-Broadley fourth definitive coin portrait of Elizabeth II is on the obverse, his initials are below the truncated neck. The obverse bears the inscription:
ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA·25 DOLLARS·
The 2016 Perth Mint kangaroos (or nuggets) feature an engraving by Ing Ing Jong of a kangaroo resting on its haunches with the silhouette of another kangaroo in the background. The reverse features the inscription:
AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO 2016 1/4oz 9999 GOLD
A 'P' mint mark to the right of the design denotes that this coin was issued by the Perth Mint.
