2016 Elizabeth II 90th Birthday One Kilogram Silver Proof £500 Coin
This stunning £500 coin was issued by issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin features a Royal Cypher design by artist Christopher Hobbs.
The coin is struck to a proof finish from 999 fine silver. It contains 32.151 troy ounces of the precious metal.
The coin comes displayed in a splendidly lined wooden presentation box, with a numbered certificate of authentication from The Royal Mint. Mintage is limited to 450 coins.
Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday began on 21st April 2016 (her actual birthday) and continued past 11th June 2016 (her 'official' birthday). Public celebrations included street parties, as well as a concert at The Mall.
Elizabeth is the only British monarch to have reached this milestone birthday.
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. His initials can be found at the truncation. The coin bears the inscription:

The coin was designed by the painter and sculptor Christopher Hobbs, whose mosaics have appeared in Westminster Cathedral. The design was inspired by the English rose and Elizabeth's love of flowers.
The design features a crowned 'EIIR' royal cypher with '90' below. It is circled by nine roses, one for each decade of her life. The outer legend reads:
