In 2015, The Royal Mint issued this splendid Pistrucci Waterloo silver medallion.
After the Battle of Waterloo, a Waterloo Campaign Medal was issued to all who had fought in this historic battle which ended the Napoleonic Wars. A second medallion was commissioned by the esteemed engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci, however it was not struck until 200 years later.
Based upon the original Pistrucci designs, The Royal Mint issued this stunning silver medallion for the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. This large medallion comes in a black presentation case with a certificate of authenticity.
Theobverse bears the four leaureate busts of the four allied leaders with the inscription:
ANGLIA AUSTRIA RUSSIA PRUSSIA FŒDERE JUNCTIS.
This is set within a wide band of figures representing the battle and the peace that followed.
The reverse bears an intricate engraving of the Duke of Wellington and Prince Blücher, the Prussian Field Marshal riding into battle with the inscription set within a large band:
WATERLOO 18 June 1815
The band features elements of the famous Greek mythology epic battle, The Gigantomachy.
