Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Augustus Saint-Gaudens was an American sculptor that designed monuments of American civil war generals and later used his numismatics skills to design coins for the US mint.

One of his most successful designs was his $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle gold piece (1905-1907) that is considered by many bullion collectors as one of the most beautiful American Coins issued.

Obverse

The obverse features Lady Liberty, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. It was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Reverse

The reverse was designed by Miley Busiek and shows a male eagle, carrying an olive branch.
