The Royal Mint issued a silver medallion in 2011 celebrating minting during the age of the Tudors. The design illustrates the progression of heraldry, coin lettering and symbols of the era.
The Roman style lettering on British coinage was reintroduced in the Tudor period and replaced the heavy mediaeval lettering used previously.
This medal was produced to 'treasure the years of heritage, of skill and craftmanship combined with timeless aesthetics.'
Designed by Heena Aujla, the obverse features the motto of the Monarch of the United Kingdom:
DIEU ET MON DROIT
Which translates to 'God and my right', and:
PER CRUCE TUA SALVA NOS XPE RED
Which translates to 'By Thy Cross save us O Christ our Redeemer'.
A double Tudor rose is featured in the background. Two dates, 1511 and 2011, are set on the time piece which displays Roman and Georgian numerals.
The reverse displays the crowned coat of arms with two crowned initials h and r on either side of the shield. This is set within the heavy black lettering of the time of Henry VIII's death in 1509.
