Thunderbird Mythology

The thunderbird, a legendary creature, holds a significant place within the cultural heritage of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas prior to the 15th century. According to thunderbird mythology, the thunderbird embodies a supernatural entity characterised by immense power and strength.

Highlights of The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

The XXI Olympic Winter Games were held from February 12 to 28, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada, featuring 15 sports and over 2,600 athletes from 82 nations. Notably, Canadian athlete Alexandre Bilodeau made history by winning the country's first gold medal on home soil, while the tragic death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili during a training run left a sombre note.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2009 Thunderbird Totem Gold Coin shows Susanna Blunt's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The Inukshuk - a symbol of Canada's indigenous culture - appears to the left, with 'VANCOUVER 10' and the Olympic rings below.

This design beautifully combines natural elements with cultural heritage, making it a unique and valuable addition to any collection.

The portrait is encircled by the inscription:

50 DOLLARS • CANADA • ELIZABETH II • 2009 •

Reverse

The reverse of the 2009 Thunderbird Totem Gold Coin displays the impressive Thunderbird, which holds great significance in Indigenous cultures. The design is complemented by eleven maple leaves that appear to be fluttering in the wind generated by the bird's wings.

The inscription of the coin reads as:

9999 FINE GOLD 1OZ OR PUR

All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out.

If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.
