2008 Royal Shield of Arms Silver Proof Piedfort United Kingdom Coin Set

These 2008 silver proof piedfort coins are the first to feature the Royal Shield of Arms reverse. Introduced in 2008, the design replaced the Royal Emblems design. The seven coins in this set form the Shield of Arms when placed together.

These piedfort coins are double the thickness (and weight) of a standard coin. The set comprises of a £1, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p coin. All of the coins are struck to a proof finish from 0.925 sterling silver.

These silver coins are beautifully encased in a black presentation box and are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.

Only 3,000 of these sets were issued.

New Royal Shield of Arms Coin Design

In 2008 The Royal Mint changed the reverse design of circulating coins from the Emblems of Britain to a new style, named the Royal Shield of Arms. Designed by Matthew Dent, the seven coins, when placed together correctly, make up the Royal Shield of Arms.

Obverse

The obverse of the coins was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. This is the fourth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse of the coins was designed by Matthew Dent. When placed together they form the Royal Shield of Arms.

Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
