These 2008 Gold Kangaroo Nugget 1 oz Perth Mint Bullion Coins are produced by the Perth Mint in Australia with a declared mintage of 63,429! This is pretty low by bullion standards.

The reverse of the commemorative coin features a Kangaroo, designed by Ryan Vanderwiel, and the obverse features Queen Elizabeth II 4th portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley.

Vanderwiel's design showcases a kangaroo bounding to the left with a baby kangaroo (a joey) in it's pouch.

Each coin is struck from 0.9999 fineness (24-carat) and contains 1 troy ounce of the precious metal and has a face value of $100.

Kangaroo

Kangaroos are only found in the wild in Australia, they are known as one of the most iconic animals in Australia! An adult male Kangaroo is called a Buck or Boomer, a female adult a Doe and a baby kangaroo a Joey! They are the largest species in the Macropod family.

Gold Nuggets

Until 1990 the coins featured the famous gold nugget the 'Welcome Stranger' on the reverse and were referred to as 'nuggets'. From 1990 onwards the design changed to feature a kangaroo instead. For this reason, the coins may be called nuggets, kangaroos or 'roos. They have also featured other species of the macropod family too; Wallabies and Wallaroos!

The fourth portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and is featured on this obverse.The coin bears an inscription that reads as:

Reverse

The reverse of the 2008 Perth Mint Kangaroo nuggets features a kangaroo with a joey in its pouch, designed by Ryan Vanderwiel. Also, the coin bears an inscription that reads as:
