This 2005 Year of the Rooster Perth Mint Lunar 1 oz Gold Bullion Coin is part of the Australian Lunar Series I Collection. This Chinese lunar coin is the 10th release in the Perth Mint's lunar coin series.
Each coin is struck from 999.9 fine gold (24 carat) and contains one troy ounce of the precious metal. The coins are issued in a protective capsule.
There were 19,729 of these coins issued. The Perth Mint lunar coins are popular with collectors, with the Series I coins being particularly sought-after.

The 2005 Year of the rooster coin was issued in a plain finish as well as a coloured design. Although a higher mintage figure than the coloured design, this coin is highly sought after by collectors.
The Chinese Lunar Calendar is based on a 12-year cycle. Each year is associated with a different animal and the lunar animal for 2005 is the Rooster.

The obverse bears the fourth coin portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The reverse bears an engraving of a Rooster with the Chinese character for "Rooster"(雞), "1 OZ 9999 GOLD" and the date "2005" positioned vertically behind the resplendent bird.
