The 2005 gold proof one pound coin with a reverse design by Edwina Ellis features one of Wales' most famous landmarks, the magnificent Menai Straits Bridge. This is the second design in the Bridge series.
This gold coin is struck in 22 carat fineness and is British legal tender. This coin comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
This is the second Gold Proof Coin in a series of four original designs featuring bridges within each of the four home nations. The British Bridge One Pound collection is the first time the modern gold proof one pound coin has been offered as an individual piece.
This 22 carat gold proof coin is exempt from Capital Gains Tax. This coin comes in a protective capsule within a presentation box, it is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender.
The obverse bears the right facing portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The engraver's initials IRB are below the truncated neck. The coin bears the inscription:
