The 2004 Tenth Ounce Gold Year of the Monkey Coins are part of The Perth Mint's Chinese Lunar Series I.
These coins are issued from 0.999 24 carat gold.
Although these coins had a maximum mintage figure of 80,000 only 14,060 of the coins were actually produced.

The Australian Lunar coins are loved by coin collectors and investors all over the world. The 2004 Year of the Monkey gold coins were issued in both a plain uncirculated finish and also with a coloured design. The coloured Lunar Monkeys are issued to a low mintage and are sought after by collectors.
The obverse shows the fourth coinage portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The reverse of the coin was designed by Jovan Radanovich and shows a monkey walking along a branch. The Chinese character for Year of the Monkey appears at the top.
