2003 Euro Pattern Sweden Coin Set

The 2003 base metal proof 9 pattern euro set was commissioned by the International Numismatic Society as a demonstration of how a Swedish Euro could have looked, prior to the nation's referendum in the same year. The fantastic collection is a celebration of the Euro .

The 5, 2 and 1 pattern euro coins wonderfully illustrate the Swedish naval ship, Vasa. Symbolising peace, justice and commerce the vessel was designed by Donald R. Golder.

The reverse of the 5 Euro pattern coin shows a female figure, representing Sweden, with the nation's ship Vasa in the background.

After his passing 30 years ago, the 1 and 2 euro coins, alongside the 50, 20 and 10 cent coins all feature a depiction of monarchy as a commemoration to the last Swedish king, Gustav VI.

September 2003 saw Sweden hold a national referendum to decide if the Euro should be taken on as the new national currency. All of the wonderful designs exhibited in the set were submitted to the nations bank, Riksbank.

On a number of previous occasions, especially before major coinage changes, pattern coins have been produced as a design exercise or to test public opinion. Many of these have been privately produced. A privately produced pattern set of British euro coins has already been produced, and met with intense demand, despite almost negligible marketing. Originally priced at around €40, these have changed hands for over €250 on e-bay.

International Delivery

These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
