This French silver coin was issued by the Monnaie De Paris in 2000. The coin is individually presented in the original box with a certificate of authenticity. The silver proof coin features innovative designs on both the obverse and reverse which symbolises transition of the new millenium in France.

It was produced as part of The Millennium Masterpiece Silver Coin Collection; issued by The Royal Mint, the collection features twenty-four magnificent silver coins from all over the world each quite exceptional in its own right.

Obverse

The obverse features an engraving of the iconic French fashion designer, Yves Sait-Laurent who is said to have drawn inspiration for his designs from the streets of Paris. Sait-Laurent was the first living couturier to have his work exhibited in a museum. The engraving bears Saint-Laurent's signature and an image of his first show in 1962; a show that was totally to change the course of fashion history.

Reverse

The reverse features Saint-Laurent's talisman heart and a collage taken from his New Year's greeting cards. This symbol of love is very important to the House of Yves Saint Laurent, the design being based on a heart-shaped brooch which has featured in every collection by the House since the first Haute Couture show in 1962. The reverse carries the inscription LIBERTÉ EGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ, embodying the ideals of the French Revolution and reflecting the passionate desire of the French for freedom and equality.
