Gold Proof Crown Coin Commemorating the Life of Princess Diana.

In 1999, Great Britain issued a crown, with a face value of five pounds, to commemorate Diana, The Princess of Wales. The decision to strike a coin in memory of Diana was made on the recommendation of the Princess of Wales Memorial Commitee, and was one of only four projects recommended. It was issued in a total of five versions, and three different metals

The proof coins are stuck in 22 carat gold fineness and contain 1.177 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has a mintage 7,500 coins.

Princess Diana

Lady Diana Spencer was born on the 1st July 1961, and christened at Sandringham. She spent her childhood at Park House on the Royal Estate which is only a short distance from Sandringham House.

She was the daughter of the eighth Earl Spencer whose line can be traced to medieval times. Lady Diana was educated at Riddlesworth Hall, Norfolk, and West Heath in Kent. The Spencer family home is in Althorp, Northamptonshire.
