This 1999 Churchill 125th Anniversary Gold Proof £5 Set features coins issued by Alderney and Guernsey. Just 125 of these sets were comissioned.

The coins are struck in 22 carat fineness, with the set containing 2.8022 troy ounces of gold.

The 125th Anniversary of Churchill's Birth

The coins celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Winston Churchill.

Sir Winston Churchill was born on 30th November, 1874. He is often described as the "greatest living Englishman". A man of many talents, he is known for being a soldier, politician, writer and an artist.

He served as Prime Minister twice. His first term of office was from 1940 until 1945. He saw Britain through the Second World War, his words of courage helping the nation through the difficult time. His second term of office was from 1951-1955.

Coin Designs

The Alderney coin features the Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The reverse shows Churchill wearing a hat. The text reads "WINSTON SPENCER CHURCHILL. 1874 5 POUNDS 1965."

The Guernsey coin has the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of the Queen on the obverse. This replaced the Raphael Maklouf version in 1998. The reverse also features Churchill and reads "WINSTON SPENCER CHURCHILL. 1874 5 POUNDS 1965."

Presentation

The proof coins come in a presentation box and are issued with a certificate.

The obverse of these coins feature the images of HM Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Ralph Maklouf and Ian Rank-Broadley.

Reverse

The reserve feature 2 different portraits of Winston Churchill by Christine Ellingham and Tony Hansard.

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
