The 1996 Macau Year of the Rat 3 Coin Gold Proof Set
Produced by the Royal Mint, this 3-coin set is struck in 22-carat/.916 fine gold and celebrates the Chinese Lunar Year of the Rat.
These coins are polished to a proof finish and comes in its own presentation box with certificate of authenticity.
According to the certificate which accompanies these coins:
"Chinese mythology tells of a day when Buddha summoned all animals to a meeting and promised that any of them whom paid him homage would be honoured by having a year named after them. Only 12 animals arrived at the meeting place and so each year of the twelve year cycle of the Chinese calender was named after an animal in the order they arrived at the meeting with Buddha. The rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, cockerel, dog and pig."
The obverse features an image of St. Paul's church in Santo Antonio, Macau.
The reverse features an image of a rat along with the coins monetary denomination.

Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
Gold investment products are VAT free. Silver investment products are inclusive of VAT at the current rate unless otherwise stated.
