The 1996 gold proof sovereign four coin set comprises of a proof quintuple-sovereign (£5), double sovereign (£2), a full sovereign, a half sovereign, a certificate of authenticity and a gold plated medallion.

Since the initial production of gold sovereign coin sets in 1980 issue limits have decreased annually from 10,000 sets in 1980, with the 1996 issue only seeing 742 sets produced, well under the issue limit of 1,250.

The 1996 gold proof set features the third portrait of Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. This was seen on british coinage from 1985 to 1997. The Maklouf portrait has always been popular.

In 1990, the four coin gold proof set packaging was re-designed, and changed to a red leather box, and for the first time, a gold-plated medallion was including, with a crowned "Elizabeth R" above the date. The medallion included in the 1996 sets has a rat on the reverse to mark the Chinese lunar year of the rat.

Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
