Red Kangaroos Design

The 2 oz bullion coins all have the Red Kangaroo on the reverse, the 2 oz bullion coins were minted from 1991-2009.

Red Kangaroos

A male Red Kangaroo (Buck) can grow to 6 feet (1.8m) tall whilst the females (Doe) typically grow 4-5 feet (1.22m-1.52m) tall. They can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour (64 kilometres per hour) and can cover 25 feet (7.6 meters) in a single leap!

Why is the Nugget popular?

The Gold Nugget coin series was first introduced in 1986 as a competitor to other coins such as the Maple and Krugerrand. The series originally featured famous gold nuggets discovered in Australia on the reverse, but the theme was switched to kangaroos in 1990. For this reason, the coins may be called nuggets, kangaroos or 'roos.

The Obverse features the 3rd Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael David Maklouf.
