This 1993 British four coin gold proof sovereign set is struck in 22 carat gold fineness and contains the the quintuple sovereign, double sovereign, full sovereign and half sovereign.

This set also includes a silver medallion of Benedetto Pistrucci, the designer of the classic St George & Dragon engraving which has graced the reverse of most gold sovereigns since 1817.

Raphael Maklouf

The 1993 gold proof sovereign set features the third portrait of the Queen, as used from 1985 to 1997 inclusive on most British coins. The issue quantity on this 1993 four coin set is less than a quarter of the 1985 issue. The issue limit placed on the 1993 set was 1,500 and only 1,336 were issued. There were 5,849 of the 1985 sets issued.

In 1990, the four coin gold proof set packaging was redesigned, and changed to a red leather box, and for the first time, a gold-plated medallion with a crowned "Elizabeth R" above the date was included. The medallion included in the 1993 sets has a monkey on the reverse to mark the Chinese lunar Year of the Monkey.

The coins in this set are British legal tender and are free from Capital Gains Tax.

Reverse

The reverse of the coins in the gold proof sovereign set features the St George and Dragon engraving by Italian engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci.
