The reverse design depicts a Grey Kangaroo, one of the most common species of Kangaroo in Australia. They are easily identifiable by their grey fur!

A male Grey Kangaroo (Buck or Boomer) can grow up to 6.6 feet (2m) tall whilst females (Doe) typically grow to around 5 feet (1.5m) tall. There are two main varieties of Grey Kangaroo, Eastern and Western.
The Gold Nugget coin series was first introduced in 1986 as a competitor to other countries coins such as the Maple, Krugerrand and Britannia. The Nugget series originally started with having famous gold nuggets discovered in Australia on the reverse. In 1989 they produced a nugget reverse design and a kangaroo reverse design. From 1990 onwards all proof and bullion designs now have a kangaroo on the reverse.
The Obverse features the Third Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael David Maklouf.
The inscription reads:

The reverse of the coin features a Grey Kangaroo by Dr Stuart Devlin.
