This gold proof commemorative coin is called Art in Israel and represents the many artistic activities that are found in Israel.

Israeli Independence

In 1986, the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation Ltd issued a gold proof coin to commemorate the 38^th Anniversary of Israel's independence. Although, Israel is a fairly small country, its diversity has helped to create a culture that is rich in the arts. The coin was designed by engravers Assaf Berg and Tidhar Dagan and was struck at The Mint of Munich.

The edge of the coin is milled.

Obverse

The obverse features a stylised engraving with the legend:

With the denomination in Hebrew and English together with the symbol of the State of Israel:

Reverse

The reverse bears an engraving of abstract symbols which represent art, music, literature, sculpture and architecture.
