This 1984 silver dollar commemorates the 23rd Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. The brilliant uncirculated coin was issued at the Philadelphia Mint.

A total of 217,954 coins were issued and each coin comes sealed inside a presentation card, which is housed inside a cardboard presentation box.

Each coin is struck from 0.900 fine silver and weighs 26.73 grams. It has a total silver weight of 0.7734 troy ounces.

1984 Olympic Games

During 1983 and 1984, the USA issued special commemorative silver dollars to mark the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. Although the USA has produced a long series of commemorative half dollars, it did not produce commemorative dollars until this issue, so that these are the first American silver commemorative dollars.

There were only two different designs, one in 1983 showing a discuss thrower, and this coin, in 1984, showing a classical scene of a podium on an arch.

Mintmarks

Coins were issued by the Philadelphia Mint (no mintmark), the Denver Mint ('D' mintmark) and the San Francisco Mint ('S' mintmark).

Obverse

The obverse shows the entrance of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
