1980 Arctic Territories Silver Proof Canadian $1 Coin.
This Canadian silver dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of the transfer of the Arctic Territories from British rule to the then Dominion of Canada.
The coin is issued loose, and is struck in .500 silver fineness.
The British Arctic territories, now known as the Arctic Archipelago, were claimed by the United Kingdom as part of British North America. The territory was passed to the control of Ottawa in 1880 by means of an Imperial Order in Council (Adjacent Territories Order) passed under Royal Prerogative. This order excluded Newfoundland, which was not transferred to Canadian rule until 1949.
The obverse shows the third portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth by Arnold Manchin.
The reverse depicts a polar bear standing on floating ice. It was engraved by Donald D. Peterson.

These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.
