The 1979 Gold Proof Sovereign features the second coin portrait obverse of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin and the traditional St. George and the Dragon reverse design by Benedetto Pistrucci.

This coin is a proof coin, which has a highly polished mirror finish background and the design is raised in a contrasting matt finish. Proof coins are issued as limited edition, the coin in a capsule with a Royal Mint leatherette wallet , the 1979 proof sovereign was not issued with a certificate, although those from 1980 onwards were.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin was designed by British Artist and Sculptor Arnold Machin. It is the second portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to be used on the sovereign coins.

Reverse

The iconic St George and the Dragon design, by Benedetto Pistrucci, appears on the reverse of the coin. This was first used on sovereigns in 1817.

Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
