This 1973 Isle of Man 4-Coin Sovereign Set features a quintuple sovereign (£5), double sovereign (£2), sovereign and half sovereign.
The coins are struck from 0.916 (22 carat) gold and have a proof finish. The set contains just over two troy ounces of gold.
There were no British sovereigns issued in 1973, making this Isle of Man set particularly appealing to collectors.
No British sovereigns or half sovereigns were minted in 1973. The Isle of Man issued gold sovereigns, making them a great alternative.
The obverse was designed by Arnold Machin, and shows the second coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The text reads:
ISLE OF MAN SOVEREIGN
ELIZABETH II
The reverse shows a Norse warrior on horseback. The design is similar in appearance to the St George and Dragon reverse found on British sovereigns. The design is credited to The Pobjoy Mint Designers.
