More Info

This commemorative coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint on behalf of the Cayman Islands to mark the 25th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

1972 was the first year that the Cayman Islands issued their own coins. Prior to this Jamaican coins were used in the Caymans. The 1972 coin issued for the Queen's silver wedding anniversary were the first British coins for 300 years to portray a living person or a member of the Royal Family other than the reigning monarch. The Cayman Islands currency is the Cayman Islands Dollar, with the sub unit being the cent.

The Cayman Islands are a self-governing a British Overseas Territory and is well known as an offshore tax haven for wealthy individuals and businesses. The Caymans consist of three islands in the Caribbean Sea; the main island of Grand Cayman (home to the capital Georgetown) and two smaller islands Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The Cayman Islands have their own currency, the Cayman Islands Dollar.
