1958 Queen Elizabeth II gold sovereign. This British coin is struck in 22 carat gold and bears the famous St George and the Dragon engraving by Benedetto Pistrucci.
Photographs shown may not be the actual coin and may differ in terms of grade, die numbers, design flaws and other minor details.
There were 8,700,000 sovereigns issued in 1958. This gives the coins a 'common' rating in The Gold Sovereign by Michael A. Marsh.
Mary Gillick's 'crownless' portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the coin's obverse. This was used on sovereigns until 1974. The legend reads ELIZABETH II DEI GRA:BRITT:OMN:REGINA F:D:+
St George and the Dragon is shown on the reverse. The design was made by Italian sculptor, Benedetto Pistrucci. The date is shown at the bottom, below the horse. This space is called the exergue.
