Queen Elizabeth II Coronation

Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was the thirty-eighth to have taken place at Westminster Abbey, the event was shared by millions worldwide and in London there were large crowds lining up to watch the special occasion.

PF-65 Graded

NGC gave this coin a PF-65 grade based upon the Sheldon coin grading system, which means it is well struck with moderate marks or hairlines.

Obverse

This coin's obverse was designed by Edgar Fuller.

The obverse shows a sculpted portrait of the young queen (Queen Elizabeth II) mounted on the royal horse Winston. Winston was a chestnut gelding horse that was ridden by not one, but two royal family members (King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II).

The Queen is dressed in her uniform as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards, and was worn by the Her Majesty during the ceremony of Trooping the Colour. On either side of the portrait is the crowned EIIR Monograms designs and has text around that reads as:

ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA BRITT OMN REGINA FIDEI DEFENSOR
FIVE SHILLINGS

Reverse

The reverse side of the coin shows a royal crown in the centre of an emblematical cross, surrounded by the 3 main symbols (thistle, leek and shamrock). In all four corners of the reverse are four shields that represent England, Scotland and Ireland. The date that appears on the reverse side of the coin is 1953.
