The 1939 was minted under the reign of George VI.
The coins shown in the pictures may not be the coin you receive.
There were three different "types" of florin issued during George's reign:-
From 1937 to 1946 inclusive, British "silver" coins including florins were made of 50% silver.
The second issue is identical to the first issue except for their composition, being made of an alloy of copper and nickel called cupro-nickel.
On the third issue, the inscription on the reverse was changed to FID DEF TWO SHILLINGS (DATE).
The edge is milled
The obverse design shows the king facing left. The engraver's initials H.P. can be seen under the neck near the right hand side.
The obverse inscription reads:
GEORGIUS VI D G BR OMN REX
The design of the reverse shows a crowned rose, with a thistle above a letter G at the left, and a shamrock above the letter R at the right. The engraver's initials K.G. can be seen to the left of the rose stem near the bottom of the coin.
The reverse legend reads:
FID DEF IND IMP TWO SHILLINGS 1939
