Austrian Coins

Between 1870 and 1892 Austria produced two different coin types, each of which carried face values in two different monetary systems, this is because these coins were "trade coinage" intended for international use as bullion coins. These types were the 20 francs / 8 florins which we feature on this page, and its sibling the 10 francs / 4 florins.

Emperor Franz Joseph I

Emperor Franz Joseph I was the ruler of Austria from 1848 to 1916. He was a key figure in Austrian history, known for his traditional leadership style and efforts to maintain stability in his empire. However, his reign also witnessed the start of World War I, a conflict that eventually led to the end of the empire he had led for nearly 70 years.
