This 1840 Silver Indian 1 Rupee NGC MS-61 Coin was struck for circulation at the Madras Mint.
The East India Company conis is stuck in (0.917 fineness) silver and was the first ever 1 Rupee that circulated in India and featured Queen Victoria’s young head portrait on the obverse side of the coin.
This coin was slabbed and graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as a MS-61 grade.
The 1840 Silver Indian 1 Rupee Coin features Queen Victoria at the young age of 21 years old and had only reigned the throne for 2 years and did not rule India for another 18 years later.
This coin has the grade of MS-61 which means the coin has been struck with an avearge/weak strike with more marks/or multiple large abrasions.
The obverse side of the coin was engraved by England born visual artist called William Wyon who was the chied engraver at the royal mint between the years 1828-51 until he passed away at the age of 56 years old.
The Young head Portrait of Queen Victora is found in the centre of the coin with an inscription that reads as:
VICTORIA QUEEN
