This 1823 Gold Double Sovereign NGC AU-58 Coin was the first ever year date that the £2 Sovereign's were placed into the general circulation.

Graded and slabbed by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) with the highest AU grade of AU-58.

Contains 16g (0.4708 troy ounces) of 22 carat gold and was struck in 0.917 fineness.

An interesting fact about this 1823 Double Sovereign Coin is that it is the only gold two pound coin that features King George IV on the obverse side of the coin.

AU-58 Grade

An AU-58 graded coin means there is slight wear on the highest points of the design and is just outside of the top ten grades that are awarded by the NGC.

Obverse

The designer and engraver of the obverse of this £2 was Jean Baptiste Merlen, whose initials J.B.M. appear under the truncation of the neck of George IV.

Reverse

W.W.P. on the ground for Mint Master William Wellesley Pole, date in exergue. The initials B.P. lie below the ground on the right.
