Buy this superb 1708 Queen Anne Half Crown. Struck in sterling silver, 0.925 fineness. This historic post union circulation coin has been graded by our expert numismatist to aEF / aUNC.

This British coin is the SEPTIMO version, s.3604.

Queen Anne Half Crowns were minted between 1703 and 1714. In 1707, the Treaty of Union was passed by the Parliament of England and the Parliament of Scotland to bring together the two nations to create the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Reverse designs consisted of three types, Plain shields, Plumes, and Roses/Plumes.

Some of the 1703 Halfcrowns carry the word 'VIGO' below the bust, in reference to the source of the silver, which was captured from the Spanish during the Battle of Vigo Bay in 1702. Some post-Union Half crowns carry an 'E' below the bust, in reference to the fact that they were struck at the Edinburgh Mint before it was closed in 1709.

The edge of this silver half crown bears the regnal year SEPTIMO.

Obverse

The obverse bears the draped bust of Queen Anne with the inscription ANNA DEI GRATIA

Reverse

The reverse bears the shield reverse. Four crowned shields with the inscription REG MAG BRI FR ET HIB and the date 1708.
