This half-penny of William III is dated the year that the reknowned scientist and mathematician, Sir Isaac Newton was appointed Master of the Royal Mint. In addition to his famous scientific achievements, Sir Isaac is known amongst numismatists for being the man who put Britain on the gold standard in 1717 by fixing the value of a guinea at 21 shillings, and for his campaign to hunt down as many coiners and forgers as possible during his tenure at the Mint.
This is the I over E in TERTIVS version of the coin. Spink reference 3554.
Photographs shown may not be the actual coin and may differ in terms of grade, die numbers, design flaws and other minor details. Please get in touch if you require a photograph prior to purchase.
