“I don't shop around for the lowest prices. For me, knowing that the coins are genuine outweighs all other considerations. That's why Chards is the only UK coin dealer I would buy my coins from. Years ago (pre-2000), an old timer told me that Lawrence Chard would never let a counterfeit coin pass through his shop. I may even have chatted with him myself before buying my first gold sovereigns when they were £67 each. The man said he had recently returned a coin from a large (unnamed) dealer because it wasn't genuine. I felt very reassured by this and I'm sure their reputation is still intact. Mind you, I had also invested £70 in a Fisch coin checker so I could do my own verification, and yes, all the sovereigns I bought from Chards were genuine. Lesley there now tells me all the Chard staff are experienced in checking for genuine coins and that they have "a Niton Testing Xray machine that tests the precious metal contact [sic] of a coin".”
