The 2025 Year of the Snake 10 oz Gold Coin is the sixth release in The Perth Mint’s popular Lunar Series III. Each year, this celebrated series unveils a new design, and the 2025 edition pays tribute to the snake, one of the twelve animals of the Chinese Lunar cycle.

This is the first Australian lunar coin to feature the Australian coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.

In China, they will celebrate the Chinese year of 4723 when the year of the snake begins. Individuals born between the following dates are considered to be snakes in the Chinese lunar year calendar and are associated with the wood element.

Obverse

The obverse features Dan Thorne's effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, a first in The Perth Mint's Australian Lunar series. In addition, the coin includes an inscription around the portrait that reads as follows:

Reverse

The reverse displays a snake curled among bamboo stems, possibly in search of food. Like previous iterations in the series, the Chinese character for the animal is presented, along with the following inscription:

The design also includes the Perth Mint’s mintmark (P) in the left-centre of the coin, and the designer's initials (SR) can be seen at the base of the bamboo where the snake is wrapped around.
