These 1997 Shoulders of Giants £2 Gold Proof Bimetallic Coins were the first bimetallic coins to be produced by The Royal Mint.

Features the Standing on the Shoulders of Giants design, by Bruce Rushin. The coin celebrates the history of technological achievement.

Each coin is struck in 0.9167 (22 carat) fine gold and issued in a presentation box, along with a unique Certificate of Authenticity.

What is the Shoulders of Giants Design?

The shoulders of giants reverse design was created to showcase the history of technological achievements. The design features four concentric circles, that shows how mankind transitioned from the industrial age, technological age, iron age and through to the internet.

Obverse

The obverse features the 3rd portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Raphael Maklouf. The coin bears an inscription that reads as:

Reverse

The reverse shows four circles to show humanity’s technological achievements. The coins also bears the inscription:

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
